BIOGRAPHY
Born in Rome, he studied at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and, after winning the Battistini Competition in 1983 and 1984, perfected his skills at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York. After his debut as a bass, he later switched to the baritone string, debuting in the role of Silvio/PAGLIACCI in 1988.
He then performed in major Italian theaters such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan (Iphigénie en Tauride, conducted by R.Muti, Madama Butterfly, conducted by R. Chailly, Lucia di Lammermoor, L'Assassinio nella cattedrale, Gianni Schicchi, Teneke by F. Vacchi, Adriana Lecouvreur, Turandot), Arena di Verona (La Bohème, Pagliacci), Bologna (Madama Butterfly, Macbeth, Tosca, La Traviata), Rome (Il barbiere di Siviglia, Amica, Il Trovatore), Florence (Turandot, conducted by Z.Mehta, Il barbiere di Siviglia), Naples (La Bohème, Tosca, Cavalleria rusticana), Venice (La Bohème, L'Africaine, Tosca), Cagliari (Aida, Tosca, Macbeth), Trieste (Ernani, La Traviata, Macbeth, Tosca), Turin (La Traviata, Oedipus Rex, Cavalleria rusticana) and Genoa (Tosca, Aida).
He has also sung in international theaters such as Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Las Palmas, Lyon, Brussels, Nederlande Oper, Zurich, St. Gallen, Savonlinna, Aix-en-Provence, Monte Carlo, Sao Paolo, and Tokyo.
Angelo Veccia's recent and future engagements include at least MACBETH on the Opera Lombardia circuit, G. Marinuzzi's PALLA DE' MOZZI at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari), Germont/LA TRAVIATA at the Trieste, Jago/OTELLO at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and his debut as Barnaba/LA GIOCONDA in Verona and on the Opera Lombardia circuit.
He has collaborated with, among others, conductors such as A. Battistoni, G. Bisanti, S. Byckov, R. Chailly, A. Fischer, D. Gatti, V. Gergiev, Z. Mehta, R. Muti, D. Oren, N. Santi, G. Sinopoli, M. Viotti and, among directors, de Ana, G. Montaldo L. Ronconi, B. Wilson and Z. Yimou
