BIOGRAPHY

Pietro SPAGNOLI since long time is appreciated guest of many important theatres around the world. He has performed, among others, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro,  Staatsoper Vienna, the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Liceo in Barcelona, Teatro Real Madrid, the Festival in Aix-en-provence, La Monnaie Bruxelles, the Staatsoper Hamburg, Semperoper Dresden, the Opera Zuerich, owing for many years his status as an internationally renowned performer principally for his interpretations of leading roles mostly in the repertory of Rossini, Donizetti, Mozart, Cimarosa, Paisiello.

His wide repertory includes  ‘Figaro’ and ‘Don Bartolo’ in ‘IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA’ , ‘Conte Almaviva’ in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, the title role as well as ‘Leporello’ in  DON GIOVANNI,  ‘Don Alfonso’ in COSÌ FAN TUTTE, ‘Dandini’  ‘Don Magnifico’ and ‘Alidoro’ in LA CENERENTOLA, ‘Belcore’ and ‘Dulcamara’ in L’ELISIR D’AMORE, ‘Sulpice’ in LA FILLE DU REGIMENT,  the title role as well as ‘Malatesta’ in DON PASQUALE,  ‘Mustafa’ and ‘Taddeo’  in L’ITALIANA IN ALGERI,  ‘Prosdocimo, ‘Don Geronio’ and ‘Selim’ in IL TURCO IN ITALIA, but in recent years also has added very successfully roles of different repertories such as ‘Fra Melitone’ in LA FORZA DEL DESTINO, ‘Sharpless’ in MADAME BUTTERFLY’ and ‘Michonnet’ in ADRIANA LECOUVREUR, as well as Verdi’s FALSTAFF, a role having become, since his debut in Karlsruhe, one of his favourite ones (performed also in Shanghai, Hamburg, Liège and Lisbon).

Between 2024-2025 a number of further debuts have successfully taken place - ‘Ping/Mandarino’ in TURANDOT (Puccini Festival Torre del Lago, summer 2024),  the title part in GIANNI SCHICCHI (Tokyo New National Theatre), his debut in a Spanish Zarzuela ( Teatro La Zarzuela in Madrid)  as ‘Roque’ in MARINA; he further returned to La Scala Milan as ‘Fallito’ in OPERA SERIA (by Florian Gassmann), to the Opernhaus Zuerich (title role DON PASQUALE), to the Liceo in Barcelona for ‘Fra Melitone’ in LA FORZA DEL DESTINO  and to Las Palmas (‘Sharpless’ in MADAME BUTTERFLY) and in summer of 2025 to the Rossini Opera Festival debuting ‘Tobia Mill’ in LA CAMBIALE DI MATRIMONIO.

In season 2025-2026 he returns to La Scala Milan for ‘Sulpice’ in LA FILLE DU REGIMENT, to Liège debuting  ‘Nanouncourt’ in IL CAPPELLO DI PAGLIA DI FIRENZE, to the Teatro Petruzzelli debuting ‘Tagliaferro’ in LA CECCHINA, to the Theater an der Wien again for ‘Fallito’ in OPERA SERIA (coproduction with La Scala Milan), to the Teatro La Zarzuela in Madrid for another debut,  ‘Marques del Pino’ in EL GITANO POR AMOR, then finally to the Teatro San Carlo in Naples for ‘Michonnet’ in ADRIANA LECOUVREUR, furthermore he is busy performing ‘Don Basilio’ in Paisiello’s IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA in Granada and Sevilla.

In recent times, as a teacher and vocal coach, Pietro Spagnoli has established fruitful relationships with the ‘Accademia della Scala’ in Milan, the private ‘Sedat Gürel-Güzin Arts & Science’ Foundation in Istanbul and projects with the ‘Fundaciòn Ibañez’ Atkinson in Santiago del Cile.  He has held different Masterclasses for the ‘Matisse Opera Studio’ in Valencia, the ‘Santa Cecilia’ Conservatory in Rome and the ‘Antonio Vivaldi’ Conservatory in Alessandria, just to name a few.
