BIOGRAPHY
The young Turkish tenor Mert Süngü was born in Istanbul and studied at the Mimar Conservatory, Sinan University in his home city and at the Scuola dell'Opera Italiana in Bologna. In recent years he has made a name for himself in the bel canto and Mozart repertoire.
Mert opens his 2023/24 season as Ernesto/DON PASQUALE at the Chile National Opera, followed by Tebaldo/I CAPULETI E I MONTECCHI at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Alfred/DIE FLEDERMAUS in Bologna, Agrippa/THE FIERY ANGEL in Bari and the title role in ROBERTO DEVEREUX in Geneva.
Highlights of Mert's recent seasons include his debut as Raoul/LES HUGUENOTS at the Grand Theatre de Geneve and his debut in MOISE ET PHARAON at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. He sang Alfred/DIE FLEDERMAUS at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Semperoper Dresden, Gennaro/LUCREZIA BORGIA in Toulouse, Paris/LA BELLE HELENE in Paris, Il Conte d'Almaviva/IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA in Dresden, Stuttgart, Bari and Rome and Tonio/LA FILLE DU REGIMENT in Palermo. This was followed by Tamino/DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Ernesto/DON PASQUALE and Salvini/ADELSON E SALVINI as well as Ilio/ZELMIRA and Lindoro/L`ITALIANA IN ALGERI in Sassari. He made his debut as Nemorino/L'ELISIR D'AMORE and Cassio/OTELLO in Dresden, as Libenskof/IL VIAGGIO A REIMS in Rome and at the Bolshoi in Moscow, as Percy/ANNA BOLENA at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona and as Norfolk/ELISABETTA REGINA D'INGHILTERRA at the Rossini Festival in Bad Wildbad.
In recent years Mert has worked with many great conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Nello Santi, Christian Thielemann, Massimo Zanetti, Donato Renzetti, Michele Mariotti, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Diego Fasolis, Peter Schneider, Julia Jones, Alexander Joel as well as Lorenzo Viotti and Omer Meir Wellber.
Mert is constantly refining his art and has studied with great names such as Maura Trombetta, George Shirley, Luciana Serra, Stefania Bonfadelli, Sonia Prina, Alfonso Antoniozzi and Raul Gimenez, as well as Stefano Giannini, Dolora Zajick, Rudolf Piernay, Edith Wiens and Francisco Araiza.
