BIOGRAPHY
The young Italian tenor Matteo Roma is currently one of the most promising interpreters in the lyrical field of the "Tenore di grazia" and is particularly in demand in roles by Gioachino Rossini and young Verdi.
In the 2023/25 season, Matteo will make his debut as the Duca di Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto at the Opera de Toulon. This will be followed by Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore at the Cologne Opera and Néoclès (Rossini, Le siège de Corinthe) at the Nederlandse Reisopera.
He was and is a welcome guest at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, among others in 2019 as Conte di Libenskof in "The Journey to Rheims" and in 2020 as Aufide in "Moïse et Pharaon". At Teatro La Fenice he will give Edoardo Milfort in "La cambiale di matrimonio" in October 2020, as well as Lord Cecil in Donizetti's "Roberto Devereux" in June /July.
He was also seen there most recently in Verdi's "Don Carlo". His sung roles continue to include Lindoro in "The Italian in Algiers" in Fano, Peppe in Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci" in Genoa, Fenton in Verdi's "Falstaff" in Chieti, and Aron in "Mosè in Egitto" in Novara and Pisa. He has also been heard as Chevalier Belfiore in "The Journey to Rheims" in Cremona, Pavia and Bergamo. Outside Italy, he has appeared as Don Gaspar in "La favorite" by Donizetti in Liège, Belgium, and in a Rossini concerto in Avignon.
In Kiel, he made a guest appearance as Libenskof in the derniere of "Die Reise nach Reims". Now he returns to the Fjord as Léopold in "La Juive".
