BIOGRAPHY

Young Italian tenor Matteo Roma is currently one of the most promising interpreters in the lyrical field. He is particularly sought after for roles in works by Gioachino Rossini and the young Verdi.

Matteo's 2024/25 season begins in Novara with his performance as Prunier in "La Rondine," followed by his portrayal of Nemorino in Donizetti's "L'elisir d'amore" in Darmstadt. He will also sing Oronte in "Alcina" and reprise his role as Nemorino in Bonn.

Highlights from previous seasons include Matteo’s debut as Duca di Mantua in Verdi's "Rigoletto" at the Opéra de Toulon, followed by Nemorino in Donizetti's "L'elisir d'amore" at the Cologne Opera, and Néoclès in Rossini's "Le siège de Corinthe" at the Nederlandse Reisopera. He made his debut as Prunier in Puccini's "La Rondine" and Zorzeto in Wolf-Ferrari's "Il campiello" at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. Additionally, he performed as Ismaele in Verdi's "Nabucco" in Paris.

Matteo has been a welcome guest at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, performing as Conte di Libenskof in "Il viaggio a Reims " in 2019 and Aufide in "Moses and Pharaoh" in 2020. At Teatro La Fenice, he has performed Edoardo Milfort in "La cambiale di matrimonio," Lord Cecil in Donizetti's "Roberto Devereux" in October 2020, and most recently, appeared in Verdi's "Don Carlo."

Other notable roles include Lindoro in "L'italiana in Algeri" in Fano, Beppe in Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci" in Genoa, Fenton in Verdi's "Falstaff" in Chieti, and Aron in "Mosè in Egitto" in Novara and Pisa. Matteo also performed as Chevalier Belfiore in "Il viaggio a Reims" in Kiel, Cremona, Pavia, and Bergamo.
