Polish-Bulgarian tenor Alexander Marev is emerging as one of the promising young tenors of his generation, with recent and upcoming appearances at La Monnaie / De Munt, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège and the Tiroler Festspiele Erl. His repertoire ranges from the Italian and French lyric repertoire to Wagner, Strauss and 20th-century opera.

2026/27 SEASON

Alexander Marev opens the 2026/27 season as Melot in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde in Paris with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Jaap van Zweden, following performances of the work in Montpellier in summer 2026.

He subsequently returns to the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw for Richard Strauss’s Salome. In April 2027, he makes a further return to the Teatro Regio di Torino as the Third Jew in Salome, in Kornél Mundruczó’s production conducted by Axel Kober.

Marev concludes the season with his debut at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl as the Chevalier in Schreker’s Der ferne Klang, in a new production by Calixto Bieito.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

Recent highlights include Flavio in Bellini’s Norma at La Monnaie / De Munt in Brussels and at the Opéra de Toulon, where his performance was praised for its assurance, projection and distinctive timbre, as well as appearances at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège and his debut at the Teatro Regio di Torino as Marcellus in Thomas’s Hamlet.

Marev has developed a close relationship with La Monnaie, where he was previously a member of the MM Academy and has subsequently returned in productions including Norma, Turandot, Henry VIII and Rigoletto. At the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, his appearances have included Melot in Tristan und Isolde, the Hunter in Rusalka, Dr. Cajus in Falstaff and roles in Adriana Lecouvreur and Alzira.

A former student of José van Dam at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, Marev also studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Elsner Music School in Warsaw.
