BIOGRAPHY

Born in Parma, Marco Spotti studied in his hometown at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito. Right after his master degree, he gave his professional stage debut in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA at Teatro Regio in Parma.

Further engagements followed immediately and brought him to prestigious houses like the Teatro alla Scala, the Royal Opera Covent Garden London, the Theatre Champs Elysees, the Netherlands Opera in Amsterdam, the Bavarian State Opera Munich, the Opera Rome, the Teatro La Fenice, the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and the Grand Theatre Geneva. He also sang at the operahouses in Parma, Torino, Bologna, Palermo, Catania, Naples, Cologne, Buenos Aires, the Rossini Festival Pesaro, the Opera Royal de Liége, the Palau des les artes in Valencia, in Tel Aviv with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Rom with its orchestra.

He regularly worked with conductors like Riccardo Muti, Nello Santi, Daniele Gatti, James Conlon, Riccardo Chailly, Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev, Gianandrea Noseda, Myung-Whung Chung, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Ottavio Dantone and Antonio Pappano.

His broad repertoire includes roles like Il Re & Ramfis/Aida, Fiesco/SIMON BOCCANEGRA, Inquisitore/DON CARLO, Wurm/LUISA MILLER, Sparafucile/RIGOLETTO, Procida/I VESPRI SICILIANI, Loredano/I DUE FOSCARI, Timur/TURANDOT, Walther/GUILLAUME TELL, Enrico VIII/ANNA BOLENA, Alvise/LA GIOCONDA, Papa Clemente VII/BENVENUTO CELLINI and Basilio/IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA.

Highlights of the last seasons include: Timur/TURANDOT, Wurm/LUSIA MILLER and Ferrando/TROVATORE at Teato dell Opera in Rome, Il gran Inquisitore/DON CARLO in Valencia, Papa Clemente VII/BENVENUTO CELLINI at Opera National de Paris, as well as Walther/Guillaume Tell at Teatro Massimo Palermo, Federico Barbarossa/LA BATTIGLIA DI LIGNANO beim Maggio Musicale Firenze and Alvise Badoero/LA GIOCONDA at Grange Park Opera.

Furthermore, he was Fernand/LES TROUVÈRE at Verdi Festival in Parma and he gave his debut in the title role of MEPHISTOFELE in Tokio. In addition he was Ferrando/IL TROVATORE in Bologna and at the Opera di Roma, Wurm/ LUISA MILLER at Teatro Liceu Barcelona, ATTILA at Teatro Lirico di Cagliari and Don Basilio/IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA and Inquisitore/DON CARLO at the New National Theatre in Tokio.

Future projects include Il marchese di Calatrava /LA FORZA DEL DESTINO and Grand Inquisiteur/DON CARLOS at Teatro Regio in Parma.

Marco Spotti’s dicography contains DVDs of MARIN FALIERO conducted by Ottavio Dantone (Hardy Classic 2002), TOSCA under Maurizio Benini (BBC-OPUS ARTE) and Daniel Oren at the Arena di Verona (DVD UNITEL CLASSICA) as well as AIDA at the Scala in Milan under Riccardo Chailly (UM 2007). CDs of LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (Mondo Musica 2001), SADKO of Rimsky-Korsakov with the orchestra of Teatro La Fenice under Isaac Karabtchevsky (Mondo Musica 2001), IL MITO DI CAINO (Bongiovanni 2003), DON GIOVANNI with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta (HELIKON 2011) and furthermore AIDA and LA BOHEME of the Arena di Verona under Daniel Oren and Lui Ja.

In addition Marco Spotti won several singing competitions, amongst others, the Concorso Riccardo Zandonai in Riva del Garda, the Concorso Voci Verdiane in Busseto, the Concorso Viotti-Valsesia and in Sanremo.
