Levy Sekgapane’s voice fits effortlessly into Lindoro’s tessitura, resulting in a strikingly natural performance. His “Languir per una bella”, first delivered in full voice, is then repeated mezza voce with a tender mixed register that is simply irresistible. He surprises with original ornamentation and, like any good Rossini tenor, has a brilliant, ringing top register. It’s hard to believe he is singing this role in between two performances of Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Bastille...

... Lindoro, portrayed with spirit by Levy Sekgapane. .... the South African tenor is entirely in his element, as he is in this role whose every secret he knows perfectly. From his opening cavatina, he stands out for the clarity of his diction, the control of his vocal line, and the variety of colors, especially in the second verse, which he darkens deliberately to good effect, and for the ease of his trills leading into equally deft high notes. .... His Act II aria is tightly paced and reaches intoxicating effect in the crescendo towards the top of his range.

Tenor Levy Sekgapane slips into the role of Lindoro between two performances at the Bastille, where he is singing the Count in The Barber of Seville. He knows the role inside out and performs it with touching naturalness, shaping the cavatinas effortlessly. His voice shifts seamlessly between mixed register and full voice, focusing carefully to reach the highest phrases, with the top notes delivered boldly. While his portrayal of the lovestruck Lindoro draws little from the comic register, he nonetheless sweeps his partners along in a joyful dance.
L’italiana in Algeri, TCE Paris, Olyrix, Jun 20, 2025
After being Ernesto in last November's Don Pasquale, South African tenor Levy Sekgapane returned to Bari to play the role of Conte d'Almaviva in perhaps an even more credible manner, as Rossini's colouratura allowed him to perform formidable vocal feats, most evident in the final rondo Cessa di più resistere, performed with absolute precision [...]
