BIOGRAPHY
Tenor Amadi Lagha continues his successful international career in the 2024/2025 season with performances of La forza del destino (Opéra national de Montpellier), Le Chanteur de Mexico by Francis Lopez (Opéra de Metz), La fanciulla del West (Teatro Comunale di Bologna), Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci (Teatro Comunale di Modena), Il trovatore (NCPA Beijing and Teatro delle Muse di Ancona), Carmen (Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova), and Turandot (Savonlinna Opera Festival).
Amadi Lagha’s repertoire focuses primarily on lyrico-spinto and dramatic roles from the Romantic and verismo operatic tradition. In the Verdian canon, his notable appearances include Carlo VII in Giovanna d’Arco (Teatro Comunale di Modena and Valli di Reggio Emilia), Foresto in Attila (Opera of Tirana), Rodolfo in Luisa Miller (Festival Verdi Parma), Manrico in Il trovatore (Teatro Petruzzelli Bari and Beijing), Gustavo III in Un ballo in maschera (Beijing), Don Alvaro in La forza del destino (Capitole de Toulouse), and Radamès in Aida (Teatro Carlo Felice Genova and Le Corum Montpellier).
Among his Puccini roles, his most frequently performed and most acclaimed is undoubtedly Calaf in Turandot, which brought him wide recognition at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, Teatro Verdi Trieste, Teatro Lirico Cagliari, Teatro Goldoni Livorno, and numerous international venues including Shanghai Opera, Palau de les Arts Valencia, NCPA Beijing, Savonlinna Opera Festival, and La Monnaie Brussels. He has also appeared as Cavaradossi in Tosca (Puccini Festival Torre del Lago, Le Corum Montpellier, Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf), Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly (Teatro de la Maestranza Seville), and Dick Johnson in La fanciulla del West (Teatro Regio Torino and Teatro Comunale Bologna).
Amadi Lagha is also an acclaimed interpreter of Don José in Carmen (Arena di Verona, Capitole de Toulouse, Opéra de Marseille, Savonlinna Opera Festival, Carlo Felice Genova, Hannover State Opera, Leipzig Opera), Canio in Pagliacci (Teatro Verdi Trieste, Teatro Pavarotti–Freni Modena), and Turiddu in Cavellaria rusticana (Teatro Lirico Cagliari, Teatro Verdi Salerno, Teatro Goldoni Livorno, Teatro Pavarotti–Freni Modena). Other credits include Rodolfo in La bohème (Torre del Lago, Lecce, Metz, Tirana) and the Messa da Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi (Teatro Verdi Trieste).
He has collaborated with leading conductors such as Roberto Abbado, Paolo Arrivabeni, John Axelrod, Nikša Bareza, Andrea Battistoni, Jordi Bernàcer, Gianpaolo Bisanti, Francesco Ivan Ciampa, Riccardo Frizza, Lü Jia, Kazushi Ono, Renato Palumbo, Donato Renzetti, and Massimo Zanetti. His stage directors include Daniele Abbado, Roberto Andò, Hugo de Ana, Valentina Carrasco, Paul Curran, Paul-Émile Fourny, Joseph Franconi Lee, Federico Grazzini, Jean-Louis Grinda, Yannis Kokkos, Pier Francesco Maestrini, Stephen Medcalf, and Pier Luigi Pizzi.
He began his musical studies with classical guitar and voice, continuing his training at the Conservatoire de Paris under Alessandra Papadjiakou. Simultaneously, he earned a Master’s degree (Master 2) in Music and Musicology from the University of Paris. Winner of several international singing competitions, Amadi Lagha received the Michelangelo Cupisti Prize as best performer of the 2017 season at the Puccini Festival Torre del Lago. In 2023, he was awarded the Caruso Tribute Prize in New York “for the excellence of his voice, his unique interpretive style, and his incomparable charisma.”
