Reviews

Jean Teitgen gave us an Arkel sung with warmth in a rounded, inky bass and much less of the benign, docile figure we often see.

Jean Teitgen thrilled and glowered as Alvise, making his obsessive need for power and control, and terrible jealousy, into something riveting.

BIOGRAPHY

After studying economics, Jean Teitgen began his professional musical training by studying singing at the National Music Conservatory in Paris (CNSMDP). He successfully completed this, which opened him the doors to a successful stage career. Engagements brought him to prestigious houses such as the Opéra national de Paris, the Theater an der Wien, the Grand Théâtre Genève, La Monnaie Brussels, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Theater des Champs Élysées and houses in Luxembourg, Liège, Monte Carlo, Nice, Marseille, Strasbourg, Bordeaux and many more.

His repertoire is large, but his sense of legato, his rich timbre and, above all, his great vocal power have brought him to the great Italian repertoire: He is at home with Puccini (LA BOHEME, TURANDOT), Rossini (IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA), and Donizetti (LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR). In this context, highlights of his career are also his interpretation of the great Verdi roles from NABUCCO, MACBETH, RIGOLETTO, SIMON BOCCANEGRA or AIDA. Furthermore, Jean has never lost sight of the music of his native country, the French repertoire. He appeared in L'ÉTOILE by Chabrier in Bergen, as Arkel in PELLÉAS ET MÉLISANDE at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées, as ABIMÉLECH in Samson et Dalila and as Le roi in L'AMOUR DES TROIS ORANGES at the Opéra de Genève and at the Maggio Musicale in Florence.

Jean opens the 2022/23 season with Bellini's I CAPULETI E I MONTECCHI at the Opéra national de Paris before returning to the Grand Théâtre de Genève for ROMEO ET JULIETTE. He will also appear at the Opéra de Paris in both HAMLET and ROMEO ET JULIETTE. He sings Verdi's MESSA DA REQUIEM at the Philharmonie in Paris and Beethoven's MISSA SOLEMNIS at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence.

Highlights of recent seasons include Jupiter/PLATÉE at Opéra de Paris, Arkel/PELLÉAS ET MÉLISANDE in Lille and Caen, Gessler/GUILLAUME TELL in Lyon, Luther and Crespel/LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN at Opéra de Paris, EUGEN ONEGIN at TCE Paris, Alvise/LA GIOCONDA at La Monnaie Bruxelles, I VESPRI SICILIANI in Covent Garden, ROMÉO ET JULIETTE in Monte Carlo, Oman and with the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Leporello/DON GIOVANNI in Bergen and Rouen and CARMEN in the Chorégies d'Orange , Madrid, the Theater des Champs Elysées and Covent Garden. He also sang projects in Bordeaux, Nantes, Toulon, Nancy and Nice.

During his career he has worked with top conductors such as Giuliano Carella, Mikko Franck, Francesco Lanzillotta, Louis Langrée, Marc Minkowski, John Nelson, Hervé Niquet, Antonio Pappano, Evelino Pidò, Michel Plasson, Christophe Rousset, Simone Young, Rani Calderon.
