BIOGRAPHY

Praised for his velvety tone, elegant musicality, and compelling acting, Leonardo Caimi has established himself as one of the most acclaimed tenors of his generation. He is a regular guest at prestigious venues such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Real in Madrid, Bavarian State Opera, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Salzburg Festival.

Career highlights include signature roles such as Don José (Carmen), Calaf (Turandot),and Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) at major houses including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oper Leipzig, La Monnaie in Brussels, and for six seasons at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago. He has also been celebrated as Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur) at Teatro Colón, Henri (Les Vêpres siciliennes) in Munich and Frankfurt, Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera) in Rio de Janeiro, and Des Grieux (Manon) in Tel Aviv. Notably, he also made his Hollywood debut as the tenor Brusoni in Michael Mann’s film Ferrari.

In the 2024 season, Caimi enjoyed great success at the Royal Opera House in London, appearing first as Rodolfo (La bohème) and and later in the title role of Les contes d'Hoffmann. Other recent engagements include Luigi (Il tabarro) with WNO in Cardiff, Don José at the Teatro Colón, Manrico (Il trovatore) in Braunschweig, Les contes d’Hoffmann at the State Opera Hamburg, and Werther and Carmen in Prague.

Current and future engagements include the world premiere of Pepita Jiménez at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Turiddu (Cavalleria Rusticana) at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Don José (Carmen) in Prague and Pisa, and Erik (Der fliegende Holländer) at Welsh National Opera in Cardiff.

Leonardo Caimi has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as R. Muti, L. Maazel, D. Oren, and K. Nagano, and directors including F. Zeffirelli, R. Lepage, and D. Michieletto. He holds diplomas in voice and clarinet, as well as a degree in Philosophy with highest honors from the University of Messina.
