Sabina Puértolas

Spanish soprano Sabina Puértolas studied at the Pamplona Conservatoire, the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and the Accademia Verdiana in Busseto. She is the winner of the international singing competitions Riccardo Zandonai in Rovereto, Julián Gayarre in Pamplona, Francisca Quart in Palma de Mallorca and Manuel Ausensi in Barcelona.

 Plans for the 2018-19 season include the title role in Händel Rodelinda  Opéra de Lyon and Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, both with Claus Guth; Ilia in Mozart Idomeneo a new production by Robert Carsen under Ivor Bolton at Teatro Real; Fiorilla  Rossini Il Turco in Italia at Opera de Oviedo; title role Doña Francisquita, a new production at Teatro de la Zarzuela.  Sabina also makes her debut as Adina in Donizetti L’elisir d’amore at Baluarte Pamplona.   

Recently, Sabina has performed Gilda Rigoletto at the Royal Opera Covent, Garden and Teatro Municipal de Santigo de Chile; Rosina Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Seattle Opera; Fiorilla Il Turco in Italia and Servilia La Clemenza di Tito with Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse; Marie Donizetti La Fille du Régiment directed by Laurent Pelly and Contessa di Folleville in Il Viaggio a Reims at Liceu Barcelona; the title role in Claus Guth’s production of Rodelinda for Teatro Real, Madrid conducted by Ivor Bolton; Despina Così fan tutte in Jan Philipp Gloger’s new production for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden under Semyon Bychkov; Marie La Fille du Régiment at the National Center for the Performing Arts, Beijing; L’incoronazione di Popppea and Messiah on European tour with Ensemble Matheus and Jean-Christophe Spinosi.

Other highlights include Princesse Eudoxie in Olivier Py’s production of Halévy La Juive under Daniele Rustioni for Opéra de Lyon; Morgana Alcina for La Monnaie, Brussels and Dutch National Opera with Christophe Rousset and Pierre Audi; Despina Così fan tutte with Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma under Semyon Bychkov; Zerlina in Claus Guth’s production of Don Giovanni with Dutch National Opera and Marc Albrecht; Drusilla Monteverdi L’incoronazione di Poppea directed by Claus Guth at Theater an der Wien with Jean-Christophe Spinosi. 

Sabina appeared as Lisette La Rondine for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden under Marco Armiliato; Despina and Lisa La Sonnambula with Daniel Oren at the Liceu Barcelona; Drusilla at Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse and Theater an der Wien, where she has also sung Satirone and Minerva/Amore Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria; Oscar Un Ballo in Maschera at La Scala, Milan with Riccardo Muti; Vivaldi Farnace and Satirone in Cavalli La Calisto for Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and Torroba Luisa Fernanda with Washington National Opera and Plácido Domingo.

Concerts have included Pergolesi Stabat Mater and Haydn Die Schöpfung, both with Christophe Rousset; Messiah with the Spanish National Orchestra and Xian Zhang; Gounod Messe Solennelle de Saint-Cécile with the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Jesús López Cobos and Dalinda in Handel Ariodante with Alan Curtis and Il Complesso Barocco on a European tour including Vienna, Paris, Amsterdam and London.

Her discography includes Così fan tutte Royal Opera House (OpusArte), Alcina La Monnaie with Rousset and Audi (Alpha Classics), Ariodante under Alan Curtis (Virgin Classics) and La Llama by Usandizaga (Deutsche Grammophon).
