BIOGRAPHY

The young Italian tenor Matteo Roma is currently one of the most promising interpreters in the lyrical field of the "Tenore di grazia" and is particularly in demand in roles by Gioachino Rossini and young Verdi.

In the 2023/24 season, Matteo makes his debut as Duca di Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto at the Opéra de Toulon. This will be followed by Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore at the Cologne Opera and Néoclès (Rossini, Le siège de Corinthe) at the Nederlandse Reisopera. At the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona he sings Prunier (Puccini, La Rondine) and Zorzeto in Il campiello (Wolf-Ferrari).

He was and is a welcome guest at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, including in 2019 as Conte di Libenskof in "The Journey to Reims" and in 2020 as Aufide in "Moses and Pharaoh".

At Teatro La Fenice, he performed Edoardo Milfort in "La cambiale di matrimonio" and Lord Cecil in Donizetti's "Roberto Devereux" in October 2020. Most recently, he was also seen there in Verdi's "Don Carlo".

Other roles he has sung include Lindoro in "The Italian in Algiers" in Fano, Beppe in Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci" in Genoa, Fenton in Verdi's "Falstaff" in Chieti and Aron in "Mosè in Egitto" in Novara and Pisa. He was also heard as Chevalier Belfiore in "Die Reise nach Reims" in Kiel, Cremona, Pavia and Bergamo.
