BIOGRAPHY

After Alexandrina Pendatchanska won major singing competitions at the age of 19, she celebrated her international breakthrough with the title role in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR in Bilbao. Since then, she has sung at the world's most famous opera houses such as the Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera Munich, Hamburg State Opera, Berlin State Opera, German Opera Berlin, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Theatre La Monnaie Brussels, Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, Theatre St. Gallen, Teatro San Carlo Naples, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Paris, Lincoln Center New York, Opera Houston, Santa Fé Opera and the Washington Opera.

Her wide repertoire ranges from baroque operas by Monteverdi and Handel to bel canto and Verdi to the dramatic roles of Strauss and Wagner. It includes roles such as AGRIPPINA, Poppea/ L'INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA, Fiordiligi/COSI FAN TUTTE, Contessa/LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Donna Anna & Donna Elvira/DON GIOVANNI, Elettra/IDOMENEO, Vitellia/LA CLEMENZA DI TITO, Elisabetta/MARIA STUARDA, ERMIONE, SEMIRAMIDE and DONNA DEL LAGO by Rossini, Helene/LES VESPRES SICILIENNES, Eboli/DON CARLO, Amelia/UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, Lady Macbeth/MACBETH, Margherita/MEFISTOFELE as well as Leonore/FIDELIO, CARMEN, Chrysothemis/ELEKTRA, SALOME and Kundry/PARSIFAL.

The highlights of the past seasons include her appearances as Nedda/I PAGLIACCI at the Vienna State Opera, Margherita/MEFISTOFELE at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Santuzza/CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA at La Monnaie in Brussels, and the debut as Elisabetta/DON CARLO in St. Gallen and TOSCA at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf.

Current projects include Lady Macbeth/MACBETH at the Teatro Liceu Barcelona and at the Canadian Opera Opera in Toronto, Santuzza/CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA at the Sofia Opera, the title role of SALOME at the New National Theatre in Tokyo.

On the concert stage, Alexandrina Pendatchanska performed Verdi's MESSA DA REQUIEM, Rossini's STABAT MATER and PETITE MESSE SOLENELLE, Beethoven IX Symphony and Honnegger's LE ROI DAVID. She has performed with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Myun-Wyun Chung, Charles Dutoit, Eliahu Inbal, Adam Fischer, Jesus Lopos-Cobos, Nello Santi, Bruno Bartoletti, Maurizio Benini, Bruno Campanella, Daniel Oren, Evelino Pido', Ivor Bolton, Vladimir Spivakov, René Jacobs and Vladimir Jurowski. She has worked with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, L'Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai, Philadelphia Orchestra, L'Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Russian National Orchestra, the ORF Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, L'Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Concerto Köln, Ensemble Matheus, Complesso Barocco and the Academy for Early Music.

Her discography includes Glinka's A LIFE FOR THE TZAR (Antonida) released by Sony, Rachmaninov's THE BELLS by Decca, Donizetti's PARISINA D'ESTE by Dynamics as well as aria recordings by Capriccio, Sartorio's GIULIO CESARE with ORF and the dramatic coloratura album GENUINE. Her performances as Elisabetta/ROBERTO DEVEREUX, Lucrezia Contarini/I DUE FOSCARI, Donna Elvira/DON GIOVANNI, Alcina/ORLANDO PALADINO and in PETITE MESSE SOLENNELLE are available on DVD. Under René Jacobs at Harmonia Mundi she has also recorded Vitellia/LA CLEMENZA DI TITO, Donna Elvira/DON GIOVANNI, Elettra/IDOMENEO, Arminda/LA FINTA GIARDINIERA and the title role in AGRIPPINA. She was nominated for the GRAMMY AWARDS in 2012 for her CD recording of Agrippina.
