BIOGRAPHY

During the 2022 / 2023 season, Valerio Galli conducted Faust in Detroit, Tosca in Stuttgart, Deutsche Oper in Berlin and San Diego, Carmen and Rigoletto in Toulon (where he was principal conductor) Carmen in St. Margarethen, La Rondine in Pisa and Jesi.

His upcoming engagements 2023/24 include Don Carlos (French version) in Stuttgart, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci in Toulon, La Bohème at the Sferisterio in Macerata and Il Trovatore in Stuttgart.

Considered one of the most accomplished conductors of his generation, Valerio Galli made his debut in 2007 conducting Tosca at the Puccini Festival, immediately establishing himself in the late romantic and veristic repertoire. With a diploma in piano and composition, he was awarded the 42nd Puccini Prize and is considered a specialist of the composer whose Le Villi, La Bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly (also in the Brescia 1904 version), La Rondine, La Fanciulla del West, Il Trittico and Turandot he conducted.

He has performed in the major Italian institutions (San Carlo in Naples, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Regio in Parma, Carlo Felice in Genoa, Arena in Verona, Verdi in Trieste, Massimo in Palermo, Comunale in Bologna, Municipale in Piacenza, Opera Lombardia, Massimo in Catania) and on important international stages including Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Staatsoper in Stuttgart, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (Mascagni's Rapsodia Satanica), Korean National Opera in Seoul, Detroit Opera, San Diego Opera.

Other operas from his repertoire include Faust, Carmen and L'Heure espagnole; Verdi's operas include Attila, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, La Traviata, Un ballo in maschera, Aida, La forza del destino, Don Carlo. Operas from the verismo repertoire  include Adriana Lecouvreur, Fedora, Cavalleria Rusticana, L'Amico Fritz, Zanetto, Sì, Pagliacci.

He has recorded La forza del destino (CD) for Decca; Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Un marì à la porte and Il Trittico were released on the Dynamic label for the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino productions. Fedora (Dynamic, Teatro Carlo Felice Genova) and La Bohème (RaiCom, Festival Puccini) with Daniela Dessì, Carmen (ORF, Oper Im Steinbruch), Tosca (Dynamic, Festival Puccini).
