BIOGRAPHY

Pietro SPAGNOLI is since long time appreciated guest of many important theatres around the world, among them the Staatsoper Vienna, the Metropolitan Opera House  in New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Liceo in Barcelona, the Festival in Aix-en-provence, the Staatsoper Hamburg, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Zuerich,  owing his status as internationally renowned performer to his interpretations of leading roles mostly in the repertory of Mozart, Rossini and Donizetti, like ‘Figaro’ in ‘IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA’ (available on DVD), ‘Figaro’ and ‘Conte Almaviva’ in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, the title role of DON GIOVANNI, ‘Don Alfonso’ in COSÌ FAN TUTTE, ‘Dandini’ and ‘Don Magnifico’ in LA CENERENTOLA, ‘Belcore’ and ‘Dulcamara’ in L’ELISIR D’AMORE, ‘Sulpice’ in LA FILLE DU REGIMENT, ‘Malatesta’ in DON PASQUALE, but recently also added successfully the title role of Verdi’s FALSTAFF.

Among his commitments of the last decade we recall  ‘VIAGGIO A REIMS’/role debut as ‘Don Profondo’ (Liceu Barcelona), LA CENERENTOLA/Don Magnifico and L’ELISIR D’AMORE/Dulcamara at the Metropolitan Opera New York,  ‘Don Alfonso’/COSI FAN TUTTE  (Munich Bayerische Staatsoper as well as in a new production of the Staatsoper Hamburg), LA FILLE DU REGIMENT and a new production of IL TURCO IN ITALIA/Prosdocimo (Oper Zurich),  LA FILLE DU REGIMENT/Sulpice at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, LA CENERENTOLA/Don Magnifico and DON PASQUALE/Malatesta at the Staatsoper Vienna, ‘Don Bartolo’/IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA (role debut) at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro in summer 2018, the title role of Donizetti’s DON PASQUALE (role debut) at the Théatre La Monnaie in Bruxelles.

Fuerthermore, in the last past years, he conquered with success a row of further roles outside the ‘classic Belcanto repertory’, such as ‘Fra Melitone’/LA FORZA DEL DESTINO in Las Palmas and at the Semperoper Dresden, ‘Sharpless’ /MADAME BUTTERFLY a the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, and most recently in 2020, debuted a moving ‘Michonnet’ in Cilea’s ADRIANA LECOUVREUR, again at the Teatro Petruzzelli Bari.

During 2020 and 2021 he returned to the Staatsoper Hamburg as well as to La Scala Milan for revivals of COSI FAN TUTTE, furthermore did his debuts at the Opera in Bilbao as ‘Prosdocimo’/IL TURCO IN ITALIA and as  ‘Rimbaud’ in LE COMTE ORY at the Opéra Montecarlo  and as ‘Sulpice’ in LA FILLE DU REGIMENT at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, returned to the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro in summer 2021 for IL SIGNOR BRUSCHINO and to the Semperoper Dresden as ‘Alidoro’ in LA CENERENTOLA, and again to Hamburg in the title role of Verdi’s FALSTAFF.

He opened 2022 with a revival of COSI FAN TUTTE (Don Alfonso) at the Staatsoper Hamburg, before returning to the Opera Zurich for ‘Prosdocimo/IL TURCO IN ITALIA as well as ‘Mustafa’/L’ITALIANA IN ALGERI. During  season 22-23, he returns to La Scala Milan for a production of ‘IL MATRIMONIO SEGRETO’ and debuts at the Donizetti Bergamo Festival with CHIARA E SERAFINO,   to Zurich for ‘VIVA LA MAMMA’ (role debut as ‘Procolo’), to the Staatsoper Vienna and the Semperoper Dresden for LA CENERENTOLA (Don Magnifico and Alidoro, respectively), to Bilbao for COSI FAN TUTTE (Don Alfonso), to  Hamburg for ‘IL TURCO IN ITALIA’ as Prodocimo and  to the Teatro Real Madrid for the same title but this time as ‘Don Geronio’.  By the end of 2023 he returned to Santiago del Cile for a production of ‘IL VIAGGIO A REIMS’ (Don Profondo’, before kicking off 2024 with FALSTAFF (title role) at the Royal Opéra Wallonie in Liège/Belgium followed by  a new production of LA RONDINE (Rambaldo) at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

In recent times, and as teacher and coach, Pietro Spagnoli furthermore established fruitful relationships with the ‘Accademia della Scala’ in Milan, the private ‘Sedat Gürel-Güzin Arts & Science’ Foundation in Istanbul and projects with the ‘Fundaciòn Ibañez’ Atkinson in Santiago del Cile.  He furthermore held different Masterclasses for the ‘Matisse Opera Studio’ in Valencia, the ‘Santa Cecilia’ Conservatory in Rome and the ‘Antonio Vivaldi’ Conservatory in Alessandria.
